Some days we get up and we feel powerless and defeated before we even get out of bed. Sometimes, the devil works on us repeatedly until we are beaten down in spirit. He counts on us not running to the Lord for safety, but instead, that we would look to ourselves to find strength, where there is none. God is the one who provides strength for us in this spiritual battle, so we must learn to run to Him when the devil has worn us down.
The bible is loaded with God’s promises for us; promises of protection and safety from the enemy. We have such a valuable tool and weapon at our disposal, yet so many of us fail to reach for the bible when we are being attacked by the enemy, or when we are discouraged. Have we lost faith that God is all-powerful and victorious? Or perhaps, we never really thought of that?
The truth is, God is powerful and victorious; especially, over the devil. God’s power and victory extends to us through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, who is given to us when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord.
If you have Jesus in your heart, then you already possess the power and victory of God. Now, you just need to learn to put it to work. This article offers 5 verses that you can go to for a quick boost of encouragement from the Lord. Like I said, the bible is full of them, so be sure to look up others and find your favorites for when you are feeling down.
This is how God wants you to fight your battles against the enemy; through His Scripture. This is how Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), and you can do the same. The best way to put these to work in the most efficient manner is to review these and speak them out loud as soon as possible when you feel discouragement and negativity coming on. Don’t wait until the devil has you pulling out your hair. Take a stand and reclaim your joy that is your inheritance in the Lord!
With this winter predicted to be much colder and harsher than most, we have been looking at how to warm our home if the power goes out, this heater has been recommended over and over; it’s definitely on our wishlist.
5 verses for when you feel discouraged
These 5 verses are excellent reminders that God helps His people, and these are timeless. God’s Word doesn’t expire. He is still helping His people today. If you love Jesus, God is for you and wants to help you. A solid step of faith and spiritual maturity is shown when you trust God in your weaknesses and utilize the tools He has given you when needed.
When you step out against the enemy while in the power of God, the enemy will flee. Many people won’t stand up against Satan, and this is why there is defeat and discouragement in the lives of so many. But you don’t have to take it from him; shut him down and kick him out. He roars loudly, but he is weak and already wounded by Jesus’ work on the cross. His destination is planned for him and he hates it. When Satan attacks you and discourages you, be sure to remind him of where he’s going.

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
This Scripture offers a wonderful promise; God is with you wherever you go. No matter where you are or what you’re going through, God is right there with you. In fact, His Spirit is in you. Even when the devil is trying to bring you down, God is right there ready to fight with you. But you need to exercise the power in you through faith.
All of God’s strength and blessings and promises are activated in your life through faith in Him. When you fall to your knees in full-surrender to Jesus and cry out to Him for help, you are effectively putting your faith in Jesus to lift you up and help you. And, this is His Will for you.
If you aren’t willing to pray or aren’t willing to acknowledge Jesus in hard times, then He can’t help. Pride is the work of the devil and it’s a blocker between people and God. If you want the power and protection of God, call on Him in faith and He will be right there with you to guide you and give you the strength you need in that moment.
Not only this, but He will also give you peace in the midst of the struggle. If you are willing to put your trust in God, He will give you a supernatural peace within that allows you to think clearly, act in wisdom, and sleep soundly.
If life is looking grim, or if all seems pointless and hopeless, look to God for a new hope. Put all fear and worry from the devil aside and search God for a new plan in life. God’s Will for you is victory, and He’s just waiting for you to reach out and take His hand.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Jesus went through the same issues we face when He spent time on earth. He wasn’t financially rich, and He didn’t have a huge palace or even a warm place to sleep. He was attacked by the devil and by the people who were led by the devil. His faith and endurance were tested, but He put His trust in God and relied on Him for strength. He overcame all of these and He wants to help you overcome them, too.
Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace for a reason. He is also known as the Healer. If you are down and struggling, the best thing you can do for yourself is to reach out to the Lord. Having peace in your life is a great way to get on the right path again.
When you are discouraged and defeated, it’s hard to want to do anything, let alone, care. But the difference between falling on your face and advancing in victory is simply calling out to God. This is such an easy thing to do, yet in the moment of despair and adversity, it seems like there is no point.
This too, is a lie from the devil. Right when he has knocked you down, he doesn’t let you back up to fight fairly; he starts kicking and delivering cheap blow after blow. So, understand; if the devil is going after you, remember that Jesus also went through this and defeated Satan. Call on Jesus in that moment and defeat him, too.
“Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”
There is power in the Name of Jesus. I encourage you, and anyone else, to get familiar with the power that is entrusted to you through Jesus. His name might be watered down by society, but in the spiritual realm, it’s feared greatly.
If you are being attacked by the devil, and you faithfully use the name of Jesus to send the devil away, he must go. The devil comes in many forms; in spirit, in situations, in other people. Satan works through many means, and is behind much of the adversity in life. But Jesus has given you power to crush him.
Learning to pray in the spirit, to use the Name of Jesus to cast off harmful spirits, and to walk in faith are the ways to victory in the Lord. He has given you everything you need to operate in this manner; all you have to do is put these to work.
Knowing that Jesus is rooting for you and giving you strength should give you immense encouragement, but if you don’t spend time learning these things or building a relationship with Jesus, you will miss it. Take some time and talk to God about anything and everything in your life. Tell Him the good and the bad. Let Him know that you don’t want to tolerate discouragement and defeat from Satan in your life anymore, and seek His power each day.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
God already can see the storms of life you are facing and will face. His Will isn’t to keep you from these storms, but to help you through them. He doesn’t do this to punish you, but to strengthen you. As you go through hardships and trials, your faith is strengthened, and your endurance grows.
It’s through faith that we keep our focus on God during hard times. If you are struggling to keep your focus on God right now while things are tough, try reaching out to Him. Give Him a chance to help you through whatever is troubling you.
God will give you peace in the storm and He will calm the waves and rough seas around you. Yes, you’ll still be in the water, but you won’t drown. He will uphold you and keep you safe. If your finances are bringing you down, give them to God; if your family is struggling, give them to God; if your health is failing, give it to God. Go to God with any storm that is battering you, and He will calm the seas and the wind.
“For the LORD your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!”
God wants you in your best condition, as He wants you to do His Work. What is His Work? It is to grow His Kingdom. The Kingdom of God is available to everyone who will believe in Jesus and His work on the cross. But how will the people know if no one tells them, right?
So, God has equipped each of us with certain gifts and talents that are beneficial to other believers in the church, and even for soon-to-be believers. Getting out and sharing your faith in Jesus is how you can encourage people that there is hope in life. Many people are lost and without hope. Believe it or not, there are still people who haven’t even heard of Jesus.
Even just living as an example of who Jesus is, is a great way to witness and minister to others. Going around with an attitude of peace and joy and happiness is enough to make most people wonder these days. There is so much doom and gloom and the enemy has cast a large shadow of darkness all around us. If you are trying to spread the joy of the Lord, you may encounter opposition, but this Scripture above is here to remind you that God will give you victory over your enemies.
If you are down and out and discouraged with life, the best remedy is to shift your focus off yourself and onto someone else. People who strive to help others and who worship God don’t spend time worrying about their self or their hardships. Give your problems and worries to God in prayer, and then in faith, trust God to take care of the issues and make yourself available for His service. This is the way to joy.
This article offered five verses to show that God is in control and is powerful. These show that God wants us to trust Him, regardless of how big our issues are. The Scriptures tell us that God is made powerful in our weakness, but we must be willing to go to Him when we are weak. In fact, we should also go to Him when we are strong, too. We do this, weak or strong, in faith and praise.
God won’t abandon anyone who calls on the name of Jesus. It might feel like God isn’t there, or that He hasn’t ever been there. The devil will cause us to focus on that and come to a conclusion that it must be true. In this time, remember that the Scriptures tell us that the Spirit of God is always with us and within us.
I would like to leave those whose trust is in Jesus with a bonus verse:
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
If you want to follow Jesus and walk in His glory and protection, nothing will ever be able to stop you!
