Man who is holding his head as if he has a headache. The devil will give you a headache as he distracts you from doing important work.

Have you been trying to get something done for a while now, but against your best efforts, it just seems like it’s never going to happen? This is a very common thing. While for some, it’s because of procrastination, but for others, it seems like there is an outside force that keeps interfering.

In this article, I want to expose the devil’s plans. I want to help you understand whether you are a Christian or not, Satan is out to destroy you. I will be focusing on doing the work of God, but just understand that no matter what you’re trying to do, if it’s good, you will have resistance.

Satan won’t prevent anyone from acting poorly or living in sin. But he can’t stand seeing anyone do good to others or praise God for anything. This is especially true for anyone who is trying to live for God and do His work to help grow the Kingdom of God.

If you’d like an even more detailed rundown of how you can overcome the devil in his tactics against you and your family, see my book “Don’t Let the devil Defeat You” on Amazon. You can even read the first chapter for free on your Kindle device or app.

I want you to know that you can do good and you can do God’s work, but there are some steps I encourage you to take to increase wisdom and discernment on spiritual warfare. First, it’s necessary to understand the tactics of the devil. Secondly, you need to learn how to get rid of him. The important thing to understand is that God is a powerful God, and regardless of what Satan tries to make you believe, it’s God’s plan that will prevail.

If God has important work for you to do, don’t let the enemy stop you. Trust God in all you do and seek His protection. I will tell you how to do that in this article, but I also want to discuss what God’s work is, what the devil’s plan is, and then, how you can be victorious over the enemy.

What is God’s work?

Matthew 28:18-20
“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”

Sharing the Gospel of Jesus is the main scope of the Christian’s work. There are other things, too, such as; helping and serving and being a good example. But this is the glorious plan of God. He wants as many as will believe to be saved and to spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

This starts by having a relationship with Jesus. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent to the earth to save the lost and gain victory over the devil. He took all the sins of the world upon Himself and was crucified and killed. This act of love paid the price of our sins. He became the atonement for our sins to the Father.

But also, He was raised back to life three days later by God, and through this, Jesus gained victory over death. Satan no longer held the power of death over Jesus or anyone who follows Jesus. Jesus gained all power, authority, and victory through His resurrection.

The Good News is that you and I and anyone who will believe can have Salvation in Christ and victory over death. And, all you have to do is believe in Jesus and His work on the cross and trust Him as Lord and Savior.

Romans 10:9-10
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

The devil wants you to quit

Some, and perhaps many don’t believe in the devil, much less, his evil schemes. But I am telling you he is there, and he is a troublemaker. His purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. Why would Jesus say that in John 10:10 if it wasn’t true?

I write a lot between these articles and Christian books. The devil interrupts me as much as possible to distract me from doing God’s work. While writing this article, for instance; I started the article, but then had to leave for a doctor’s appointment.

Then I had to take my daughter to her job and also it was lunchtime and my wife wanted to meet up. While out, I tried to use the washer fluid on my truck, but it was frozen, despite the fact that just last week I put winter fluid in it. I had to thaw the blockage and drain the system and put even lower temp washer fluid in. If I didn’t do this now, the system could’ve froze further down the line. This couldn’t wait.

So, this is all minor stuff, but this is exactly what the devil does. Is a doctor’s appointment or my daughter’s job a distraction from the devil? Of course, not. However, it sure was inconvenient for the washer fluid to freeze. Obviously, I got this article completed and posted, but I could’ve done without the distraction and drama.

Satan will use small things like frozen washer lines or big things like family problems to distract you from getting important work done. He doesn’t want people to learn about Jesus, especially, because that’s one more soul that won’t be in Hell with him if they so choose to follow Jesus. Satan will also try to put blockages in front of you through people or work or finances or circumstances or whatever he can if it means that you can’t press on with the work of the Lord or whatever you’re trying to do.

Don’t let him get to you. Plan ahead for interruptions, adding extra time as padding to get your tasks done and expect him to try to distract you. Stay focused on what you’re doing and ignore the devil.

You can walk in the power of the Spirit

If you already have a personal relationship with Jesus, chances are you’ve dealt with distractions and hardships from the devil in an attempt to thwart your plans for good. Chances are you also know that you have the power to get rid of him and keep up with doing good.

However, if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus yet, or if you do, but are struggling or don’t have a good knowledge foundation, then this will be helpful to know.

The devil lost his power, authority, and dominion over us when Jesus died and was resurrected, just like we talked about. But the devil still goes around trying to trick people and make them fearful of him. The truth is, he’s weak. If you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and believe in Him, then God sends His Holy Spirit into you as a Helper.

This means that the same power that was used to raise Jesus back to life is now in you. This is the same power that Jesus used to cast out many demons from people and you can do this, too. If you are being attacked by the enemy, command him to leave “in the name of Jesus.” Because Jesus’ authority is higher than his, and because he doesn’t truly have dominion in your life, he must leave.

As you go about trying to do God’s work in various ways, and even just as you try to live in a way that is pleasing to God, expect the devil to keep returning and expect to have to keep rebuking him. He is annoying and relentless. But if you do maintain your walk with Jesus, then you will also maintain the power to send him away when he tries to tempt you or attack you in some way.

The devil will never let up

I wish I could say that the devil leaves you alone more when you’re a Christian, but he doesn’t. In fact, he seems to bother you even more. He wants you to sin and he especially doesn’t want you to win souls to Christ. Thankfully, God is more powerful, and God is with you all the time as a believer. Once He gives you His Spirit, you’re never alone and are never weak and vulnerable to Satan again. If you do give into him, it’s because you took your focus and faith off God and believed the lies of the devil. And, that’s what he’s counting on.

I hope you are picking up what I’m putting down here because so many people are living defeated lives as they either don’t know the devil is attacking them or they don’t know that they can defeat him and kick him out. The devil has zero dominion or authority in your life unless you give it to him. How do you give it to him? By giving in to his temptations; by sinning and by allowing sin to remain in your life. He will always try to tell you things to break you down or to tempt you to sin.

Your best defense is discernment. The way to get discernment is to study the Word of God, the Bible, and learn who Jesus is and who God is and about the power of the Holy Spirit in you. Learn about the promises of God and what the bible says about right living. Learn about as much as you can; this way, when a false teacher comes along, or someone says something that contradicts God’s Word, you will spot it right away and you’ll know that this isn’t the Spirit of God.

Keep your guard up. Pray daily, as this is direct communication with God. If you are trying to do His work, pray about it. Ask Him to bind back the enemy and, in faith, press on boldly. I know there are people who won’t like this article and the devil will surely find a way to attack me because of my work, but I pray about my writings, before and after, and I leave the results to God. That’s all any of us can do when it comes to His work and living for Him.

Conclusion

No matter what it is you’re trying to accomplish in life; if it betters someone else or yourself, or if it glorifies God, then you can be sure Satan will be there trying to stop you. He will block you; he will distract you, and he’ll even try to make you lose hope about succeeding. He doesn’t want you to succeed, and he especially doesn’t want God’s Kingdom to grow. This is spiritual warfare, and everyone has been drafted into this war, like it or not; knowingly or not.

However, the more educated you can get, the easier your life will be. The devil already lost the war, but he still goes around tricking the unsuspecting and making them believe that he’s a powerful being. If you notice that your life seems difficult, despite your best efforts, chances are good that the devil is working against you.

If you don’t have Jesus in your life, then you don’t have power over the enemy. You can only beat the devil through the power of the Holy Spirit, and you can only have the Holy Spirit in you through your belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

If this is new to you, it might be a lot to take in. I’ve been a Christian for more than twenty years, but I’ve been oppressed by the devil for most of those. Only recently have I come to an understanding of spiritual warfare, and only since then have I been able to experience peace and joy and victory in my life. I encourage you to look into this topic further. The more you do, the more you will see that this stuff is true, and the sooner you will also find victory in your life over the enemy.

  1. Great read! It is true that as Christians, we are always under the attack of the enemy. It is a great reminder to put on the weapons of warfare (Ephesians 6:11-20). Every day is a battle, but we have been provided the weapons to fight; we have to decide to use them.
