Walking faithfully for Jesus in today’s society is difficult. I suppose it’s always been difficult, but it seems like the Christian faith is getting more and more flack lately. Our “rules” as society would call it are offensive and harsh. Well, I guess anyone who has read to the end of the bible knows that this will only get worse.
But in reality, it gets worse for the unbeliever. Sure, we get ridiculed a bit; might even see some persecution for our faith. But it’s the unbeliever who will truly suffer in the end.
God wants for none of us to suffer, though. He has made Salvation a free gift by His Grace made available to all who will accept His Son as their Lord and Savior. He has been patiently waiting for the Good News of His Son to reach all ends of the earth, so that everyone gets to hear and have the opportunity to receive this Great Blessing.
Sadly, many will be deceived by the enemy, Satan. Unfortunately, for these people who reject Jesus and seek other ways to Heaven through other religions and practices, it will be too late.
This article wants to remind all believers to keep their faith in the Lord; that on a specific day, we will be reunited with Jesus for a Great Feast. We will move to a place where pain and sickness and sorrow and fear are non-existent. We will move to a place where we get to experience and enjoy the perfection of Christ for an unfathomable amount of time; eternally.
While we remain here in our mortal bodies and in our current situations, as difficult as some of these may be, we are asked by God to keep our faith, to be of good spirit and attitude, and to remain completely loyal to Him.
3 Steps for victory through Christ while remaining in this broken world
The enemy is waiting for us to wake up each morning and he shows up to tuck us in at night. He doesn’t come physically, but through thought. He shows up within seconds of us waking each day to remind us of something that went wrong the previous day (regret, resentment, guilt) or something that won’t go right on this day (fear, worry, stress, anxiety).
He has a plan to break us down in spirit and mind. If he can get us thinking the wrong way first thing, then half his battle is won in us for the day. In a bad mood or mindset, we will effectively go forth and do his work. How? Through various daily activities. When we drive, we might road-rage, when we get to work, we might be harsh with co-workers or disrespectful to our boss. We will possess an attitude that is anything but loving.
However, if we take some time each day to work on our character for Christ, we will be much further ahead of the enemy; we will see him coming and we will be ready to rebuke him and maintain our faith and joy in the Lord.
Here are three steps we can take each day to help us draw closer to God. The more we learn about Him and trust Him, the more confident we become in who we are and what we’re meant to be doing. Our full commitment and focus on God are very necessary in these difficult times, but it seems like the more of us we give to God, the more of Himself He puts in us. Of course, when we accept Christ, we get all of God’s Spirit in us, and God is not divided. It just seems like as we mature in Christ, that we take on more and more of God’s power to function.

However you look at it, as our faith in Christ strengthens, we will be able to serve the Lord easier each day. We will be able to resist the enemy and stay true to righteous living in Jesus. So, here are some ways to build on our daily faith in Jesus.
Here are the three steps:
- Seek Discernment from God
- Meditate on the Word of God
- Walk in Obedience to the Lord
1. Seek Discernment from God
1 John 4:1
“Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.”
Each morning upon waking, before the enemy has a chance to plant his seed in our minds, we can call out to the Lord in gratitude for the day and all that it will bring. We can go into prayer and ask Him to guide and direct us throughout the day. We can ask Him about the ways we can be of service to His Kingdom throughout the day. And, we can ask Him for protection and discernment as well.
To be discerning is important as a Christian. With the enemy always trying to tempt us and trick us and get into our minds to corrupt, we need to be on guard. Discernment does just that; it shows us what is good and evil – right and wrong.
We might think that everyone has this built into them already, but we only need to watch the news for a moment to see somewhere in the world where a mass shooting or bombing has taken place because that person believed he/she was doing what was right. The enemy will make us believe something is right when it isn’t.
People who don’t have a discerning spirit will be at risk of being misled by false prophets and teachers. This is how there are so many variations of the Christian religion, as well as so many other types of religions. How can I be so single-minded to only allow for one true form of Christianity; how can I promote only one method for Salvation? Because the bible tells me so in John 14:6: “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
The bible is very clear here to tell us that accepting God the Son is the only way to God the Father.

A one-minute tip to help you meditate on God’s Word from different angles.

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
The bible is God’s Word. This is our book of direction. When we want God to speak to us about something, we are to go to His Word and spend time in focused reading. God reveals important things to us when we read the bible.
Getting in the right mindset and spirit before reading His Word is necessary. If our mind is cluttered with stress and worry, we won’t be quiet enough in our soul to hear what He’s saying. I struggle with this a lot. Sometimes I can see that God is trying to say something as a verse will jump out at me. It’s like it stops me dead in my tracks and I can’t go on until I have re-examined the Scripture.
In most instances, the verse that leaps off the page to me gives me clarity about something; often it is clarity for how to act or live. For me, this is probably necessary because I have always struggled with right living and respecting authority. And, God has sure been working on me in these areas.
God wants us to study his Word. He doesn’t want us to read the bible in a year. He wants us to read His bible everyday. How do we know when we are finished? It’s like we sit down with an empty stomach and start eating. When we are full, we get up and go about our day. I’d say that we would do ourselves some good to look at reading God’s Word each day in a similar fashion.
I tend to read a chapter from 3 or 4 books of the bible a day. This might allow me to finish the bible in a year, but that’s not the intention. I read some from the Old Testament, and some from the New Testament. Also, I always keep a bookmark in Proverbs and I just keep starting over when I get to the end. This is a book filled with God’s Wisdom. I encourage all people to read a chapter from Proverbs each day.
Furthermore, to meditate on the Word of God means to take a Scripture and put it in our mind; to keep it there and to mull it over in our mind. As we think about it throughout the day, God makes various things clear to us. The Scripture in Joshua 1:8 goes so far to tell us that we will prosper and have success when we do this.
3. Walk in Obedience to the Lord
1 John 3:22
“And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him.”
When we follow God in the way that He intends, our life goes much smoother than when we try to carve out our own path. God will give us direction if we seek Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust in God, to not lean on our own understanding, but to acknowledge Him in all we do and seek His understanding in those matters. It goes on to say that then, He will make our path straight. If we seek God in each matter that comes to us, He will give us the direction we must take and the answer that will result in the best outcome.
Some people who are obedient to God will very rarely experience negative consequences in their life. This is because God is wise and when we seek His Wisdom and wait for His answer, we can share in this Wisdom.
I never did this. I have spent most of my life in suffering from negative consequences. Only now in the last several years have I been working on this. I can say that God’s timing sure doesn’t line up with my timing, but when I wait for God to act, I don’t end up suffering the consequences.
God will prompt us to do things throughout the day when we are walking in His Spirit and in obedience. The more we listen for God and seek His Will for our life, the more opportunity to do His Work seems to come along. But isn’t that the call on the life of a Christian; to do the Lord’s Work?
We can see through the entire bible that God’s blessing follows His faithful and obedient children. I can’t lay claim to how God will bless any individual, but that it’s in His character to do this. For us, we have been obedient with tithing to our church regularly, habitually over our years together. Through these years, we have had many hard times, but never have we missed a payment or went hungry or without shelter. God has kept us in good standing for all these years.
So, I encourage you to seek out the Will of God for your life. I encourage you to spend time in prayer seeking discernment, to read His Word and meditate on a Scripture throughout each day, and to practice being obedient to God in whatever way He puts on your heart.
He will put something He wants you to do on your heart and this will be something that doesn’t easily go away. It will be something that is pleasing to God, something that aligns with the character of God, and something that builds up the Kingdom of God. When God asks us to do something, it will always be for either our good, or also, for the good of another person.
